The IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (ISTO) formally announced the establishment of a new member program, LaSAR Alliance (Laser Scanning for Augmented Reality). The LaSAR Alliance, ISTO said, will facilitate an ecosystem to help drive the growth of the market for augmented reality wearables. It aims to foster and encourage the development and promotion of technologies and research, as well as to provide an environment to exchange, share, and discuss ideas and to facilitate collaboration, according to a press release.
Founding board members of the LaSAR Alliance are STMicroelectronics, Osram Opto Semiconductors (Osram OS), Dispelix, Applied Materials, and Mega1.
