Excelitas to Acquire CMOS Camera Developer PCO AG
Photonics technology company Excelitas Technologies Corp. will acquire PCO AG — a designer, developer, and manufacturer of scientific CMOS cameras for biomedical and high-speed industrial imaging applications. PCO is a privately held company based in Kelheim, Germany. Excelitas will acquire all shares from Emil Ott, who founded PCO in 1987.
The transaction is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, Excelitas said in a press release. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“PCO is a pioneer and foundational developer of the scientific CMOS camera technology. Combining their superior imaging products and capabilities into Excelitas’ expanding portfolio of sensing, illumination, and optical products will enable us to leverage our product breadth and application knowledge to provide deeper end-to-end customer solutions across the life science and industrial markets,” said Michael Ersoni, Excelitas executive vice president, commercial SBU.
The acquisition expands Exceltias’ photonics portfolio, enhancing its industrial quality control and metrology product offerings. Excelitas previously acquired the SolidTRON product line from Silicon Power Corp. in September 2020 in a move that expanded Excelitas’ defense and aerospace technology to include solid-state discrete firing switches and pulsed power products.
