Zebra Enhances Generative AI for Mobile
Zebra Technologies said that it has successfully demonstrated a generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) large language model (LLM) running on Zebra hand-held mobile computers and tablets without requiring connectivity to the cloud. Zebra, whose mobile computing and industrial machine vision systems support intelligent automation solutions, said that the demonstration aims to help the company’s partners and customers unlock productivity gains across industries.
On-device execution of GenAI LLMs has the potential to enhance the capabilities of front-line workers so they can deliver new outcomes for end customers, Zebra added. On-device AI can offer additional personalization as well as enhanced privacy and security as data remains on the device. It also drives faster performance and lower costs, since GenAI searches on the cloud can be expensive.
Zebra identified retail, warehouse, logistics, hospitality, and health care as sectors poised to benefit from the reported advancement. Beyond taking GenAI to the mobile edge-on device, Zebra plans to apply the technology to areas including computer vision and machine vision powered by deep learning as well as task and workflow software using orchestrated AI, said company CTO Tom Bianculli.
Zebra’s mobile computers and tablets used in the demonstration were powered by Qualcomm processors.
