Laser World China Joins Together Global Research, Industry

From March 14 to 16, research and industry will come together at the Shanghai New International Expo Center for Laser World of Photonics China and Photonics Congress China.

Touted the only trade fair in Asia that encompasses all fields of photonics sectors, the event in 2016 attracted more than 45,000 attendees and 800 companies from 20 countries.

Laser World of Photonics China — organized jointly by Messe München, the Chinese Optical Society’s Laser Processing and Optical Manufacturing committees, the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, the Laser Institute of America, the Chinese Optical Society’s Optical Testing Committee, and the CSIG Machine Vision Union — offers forums, conferences, panel discussions and presentations of application examples, as well as hundreds of exhibitors from around the world.

The Chinese Laser Market Summit is held during the tradeshow, allowing roundtable and other discussions in which experts and leaders will share insight into the market, as well as hot topics impacting the photonics industry. Those topics include:

• Overview and forecast of the Chinese and international laser markets;
• Laser companies’ strategy in the Chinese market;
• International business opportunities for Chinese laser companies; and
• Business model and development strategy (including capital/financial tools for SME).

Speakers at the summit include Youliang Wang and Bo Gu, president and vice president, respectively, of the Chinese Optical Society’s Laser Processing Committee, John Ambroseo, president and CEO of Coherent Inc., Klaus Loeffler, managing director of TRUMPF Laser-und Systemtechnik, and Zhang QinMao, dean at the Opto-electronic Institute at South China Normal University.

Optics Frontier, the 12th National Conference on Laser Technology and Optoelectronics will also be held during Laser World of Photonics China. It focuses on laser physics and technology; advanced solid-state lasers and novel lasers; advanced laser materials, films and devices; new function fiber and devices; laser control, transmission and application; quantum optics; advanced laser manufacturing technology; biomedical photonics analysis and diagnosis technology and its clinical application; space laser communications and laser radar; and terahertz technology.

Also slated for the event are the Shanghai International Forum on Modern Optical Manufacturing Engineering and Sciences, which focuses specifically on Manufacturing of Optics Molding Surface and Applications. It also will feature widely discussed topics in this field, such as leading optical manufacturing, AR technology and bio-medicine.

A Workshop on Safety of Industrial Lasers and Systems emphasizes the importance of the safety of industrial lasers and systems, as the Chinese laser industry, in particular, calls for awareness by manufacturers to take responsibility for the public and their customers, and to make sure products comply with national standards. This workshop will offer lectures on safety information, hazardous results of laser safety accidents, and protective measures that can be taken. It will also address the safety standards in China, Europe and other countries with emphasis on the operational standards in laser product R&D, manufacturing and utilization.

In addition, the China International Machine Vision Technology & Application sub-conference will focus on machine vision promotes industrial upgrading of intelligent equipment, and an Exhibitor Forum on Infrared Radiation will host speakers from FLIR, SAT, Guide Infrared, DALI Technology, and more.

Also scheduled is the Forum on Infrared Thermal Imager Application and Technology. In it, experts will discuss infrared thermal imagers with applications in scientific research, electrical equipment, R&D, quality control, building diagnostics, defense and security, among others. There will be an exhibition area within this forum, with a focus on electrics, semiconductors, automobile manufacturing, ferrous metal and metallurgy, and aerospace.

The exhibition and trade fair portion of the event is touted “China’s platform for the photonics community.” It brings together international companies and manufacturers, displaying and presenting a wide range of products — lasers and optoelectronics; optics; manufacturing technology for optics; sensors, test and measurement and optical measurement systems; imaging; laser systems for production engineering; optical information and communication; biophotonics and medical engineering; illumination and energy; and security.

The conferences and congress, in addition to the exhibition and trade fair, combine scientific research and industrial applications and also support the exchange of information and expertise between the scientific, manufacturing and industrial sectors.
