Inrad Optics Receives SBIR Phase I Funding to Develop Pixelated Stilbene Arrays

Crystalline materials and optical components manufacturer Inrad Optics has received a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award from the U.S. Department of Energy in support of its development of neutron imaging technology. The award will allow the company to develop pixelated Scintinel stilbene arrays. Inrad currently produces Scintinel stilbene, an organic scintillator for neutron detection.

The work is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, National Nuclear Security Administration. The detection and imaging of neutrons is a critical capability for nuclear nonproliferation applications that require the identification of plutonium and uranium.
