Boeing Sheds Sensors Business
ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 6 -- The Boeing Co. is selling its Sensors
& Electronic Systems business to DRS Technologies Inc. for an unspecified
figure. More than 300 Boeing employees will transition to DRS. The sale is
expected to be complete later this year. The business is part of the Battle
Management Command, Control and Communications & Strategic Systems
business, a component of Boeing Space & Communications.
The Sensors & Electronic Systems business is responsible for a variety of
government-contracted programs, such as Thermal Imaging Surveillance Systems,
Mast Mounted Site, and an electro-optical aircraft landing system for
installation aboard aircraft carriers. Additionally, it provides advanced
electronic components for both defense and commercial uses. Focal plane
arrays developed and manufactured at the site are an integral part of the
Hubble Space Telescope.
