Agere Systems to Provide Wireless Platform for GSM Phones in China
Agere Systems is providing its wireless platform for use global system for mobile (GSM) communications cellular phone handsets.
Beijing, China-based PTIC Capitel is using Agere's semiconductor and software system-level platform in the company's new C6088 and C6288 models, which Capitel started selling a few weeks ago to the Chinese market. China is one of the world's largest and fastest-growing GSM cell phone markets. The handsets are approximately 30 percent smaller than a business card and weigh 2.4 ounces each -- nearly 70 percent lighter than the average handset.
Capitel is the manufacturer and brand name of the cell phones. Mobicom Corporation, based in New Jersey, designs the phones and markets them under the Mobicom brand outside of China.
