Report Says Lucent Leads Optical Equipment Market

MURRAY HILL, N.J., Nov. 16 -- Lucent Technologies has retained the market leadership in the optical equipment market for the second consecutive quarter, according to Dell'Oro Group, a market research firm.

Lucent captured the largest market share -- 20.3 percent -- of the $3.5 billion global optical equipment market during the third quarter of 2001, according to the report, and maintained the largest market share, or 22.8 percent, of the $2 billion SONET/SDH multiplexing market. Lucent's Bell Labs has garnered more than 2,500 patents in optical technology alone and has the largest global deployment of DWDM equipment, the report added.
