Alcatel Claims Record for Submarine Optical Transmission
DALLAS, Nov. 30 -- Alcatel said it achieved a world record in submarine optical transmission by transporting 3.65 Tb/s capacity over 6,850 kilometers on a single fiber.
The transmission consisted of 365 wavelengths, each operating at 10 Gb/s over a distance equivalent to most transatlantic cable links.
"This world record confirms Alcatel as a key innovator in submarine network technology. Alcatel's continuous breakthroughs in R&D allow the company to prepare next-generation solutions that provide its customers with the highest performance and lowest cost," said Bernard Le Mouel, CTO of Alcatel's optics group.
