ITF Optical Couplers Picked for Undersea Repeaters

MONTREAL, Dec. 4 -- ITF Optical Technologies Inc. has signed a major supply for the deployment of its 7-Sea couplers in undersea repeaters.

"We are both thrilled and proud to be a supplier to the undersea market," said Eric Geoffrion, president and CEO of ITF. "Our in-depth knowledge of fused-fiber technology, component packaging and optical fiber handling proved to be a successful combination in becoming a supplier of undersea qualified components. This achievement demonstrates our ability to deliver passive optical components that can meet and surpass the most stringent performance and reliability requirements in the world."

ITF's couplers are passive optical components that combine, split or tap optical signals in optical amplifiers. The couplers use proprietary All-Fiber technology developed by ITF's researchers. According to the company, processing light in the fiber itself provides advantages such as ultralow insertion loss and polarization dependent loss over wide optical bandwidth.
