Acesa Telecom Selects Corning Fiber for Iberian Build

CORNING, N.Y., Dec. 11 -- Corning Inc. announced today that Acesa Telecom will deploy nearly 8,000 fiber kilometers of Corning LEAF optical fiber for its 250-kilometer Iberian network overbuild, extending from Zaragoza to the Mediterranean coast.

Scheduled to begin in 2002, this is Acesa's first deployment of LEAF fiber. When complete, the network will connect the entire northeast region of Spain from Catalunya to Aragon and link Acesa's existing fiber optic network across Catalunya. Corning Cable Systems is the exclusive cable and hardware supplier for this project.

Other key LEAF fiber customer include Argus Telecommunications, AT&T, Broadwing Communications, Cable & Wireless, Carrier1, China Netcom, China Telecom, China Unicom, COLT Telecom Group plc, Communications Authority of Thailand, Eurotunnel, Interoute (i-21 network), Impsat, KG Telecom, LD COM, Level 3 Communications, Inc., TransTeleCom and Williams Communications. Corning LEAF fiber also has been deployed in South America and China, among other parts of the world.
