NEC to Expand Fiber Devices Businesses

TOKYO, Dec. 18 -- NEC Corp. and NEC USA Inc. plan to expand their fiber optic devices businesses for telecommunications systems in North America, a strategy that will incorporate a newly formed marketing subsidiary and a marketing agreement with a leading fiber optic components and module provider.

NEC's US subsidiary NEC FiberOptech Inc. will provide marketing research and technical support services for NEC fiber optical-related devices for telecommunications systems. NEC Corp. also has reached an agreement with WaveSplitter Technologies Inc. to market NEC's fiber optic devices in the US and Canada through WaveSplitter's sales channels.

"By creating a new marketing subsidiary in close proximity to our customers, we can provide highly sophisticated core devices to the market in a timely manner, while promoting design-in of new devices in accordance with customers' requirements," said Keiichi Takahashi, general manager, NEC Corp Fiber Optics Devices Div.
