Adaptive Optics Delivers Wavefront Sensor for Airborne Laser
BLACKWOOD, N.J., Dec. 27 -- Adaptive Optics Associates Inc., a subsidiary of Metrologic Instruments Inc., has delivered the CP/CM Wavefront Sensor, Line Replaceable Unit to Lockheed Martin Space Systems.The wavefront sensor is a component of the Lockheed Martin Beam Control/Fire Control System on the Airborne Laser (ABL) missile defense system.
ABL is a modified Boeing 747-400 Freighter mounted with a high-energy chemical oxygen iodine laser designed to acquire, track and destroy a theater ballistic missile in its boost-phase, while it is likely to be in enemy airspace.
