Digital Teleport Files Bankruptcy
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 2 -- Digital Teleport Inc., a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy Inc., has filed for bankruptcy. Digital Teleport will continue its business operations while it restructures its nearly $300 million debt under protection from the US Bankruptcy Court in St. Louis.
Digital Teleport, based in St. Louis, provides telecommunications access to small cities with its Midwest fiber optic network. Great Plains owns about 83 percent of Digital Teleport. Another Great Plains subsidiary, KLT Telecom, has agreed to provide as much as $5 million in financing to allow Digital Teleport to continue operations, the company said.
