Motorola Completes Acquisition of Synchronous Inc.
HORSHAM, Pa., Jan. 7 -- Motorola, Inc. announced it has finalized its recently announced acquisition of the San Jose, Calif.-based Synchronous Inc., provider of fiber optic transmission systems for video, data and voice transmission. Motorola acquired all of Synchronous's capital stock in exchange for shares of Motorola's common stock.
Synchronous' business and employees will be integrated into Motorola Broadband's transmission network systems (TNS) business, headed by Charles Dougherty, vice president and general manager. Synchronous's products -- including its dense wavelength division multiplexing 1550nm transmitter platform and erbium-doped fiber amplifiers -- will be integrated into the new Motorola OmniStar GX-2 headend and hub optics platform. Motorola's current integration plans also include supporting existing Synchronous platforms and its large base of customers in North America.
The newly combined TNS business will maintain operations in both Horsham and San Jose.
