ADC Awarded $30 Million in Patent Settlement

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 22 -- ADC will receive $30 million as part of the resolution of its patent infringement suit filed against Thomas & Betts Corp. and Augat Communications Products Inc., in a judgement by the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota entered on Feb. 21.

According to ADC, the defendants agreed to the Court's final judgment and will discontinue sales of its products that were accused of infringing patents covering ADC's super-high-density bays and DS-3 jacks. The super-high density bay is a digital signal cross-connect system designed to maximize density and standardize bay layouts in large, growing central offices. The patented design simplifies cable management and streamlines cross-connect wire routing. The DS-3 jack is a component of ADC's digital signal cross connect products. Under terms of the judgment, ADC will terminate its patent infringement action regarding US Patent Nos. 5,220,600 and 4,749,968.
