Kollmorgen Electro-Optical Awarded $12.4M Navy Contract

NORTHAMPTON, Mass., March 27 -- The US Navy recently awarded a $12.4 million contract to Kollmorgen Electro-Optical Div., a subsidiary of the Danaher Corp., for the delivery of nine MK46 Mod 1 optical sight systems (OSS) for DDG-51 Arleigh Burke Class destroyers. This contract includes options for an additional eight systems to be exercised over the next three years, for a total contract value of over $25.1 million.

The MK46 Mod 1 Optical Sight System is a two-axis, gyro-stabilized sensor platform containing a high-performance color daylight imaging sensor, thermal imaging sensor and eye-safe laser rangefinder. The MK46 OSS is highly integrated into the MK34 gun weapon system, allowing the ship's primary gun system to use either radar or electro-optical target tracking and imaging data.

Kollmorgen Electro-Optical, with facilities in Massachusetts and Vermont, has been the sole supplier of MK46 OSS systems since 1990. Kollmorgen has also been the primary designer of all submarine periscopes used in the Navy since 1916.
