Optelecom Awarded Fiber Optic Network Contract
GAITHERSBURG, Md., April 1 -- Optelecom Inc. announced it has been awarded a contract by The Boeing Co. for the development of an onboard flight control system fiber-optic network. The contract work, valued at $881K, will be performed over a four-year period.
Optelecom was selected as a prime contractor to supply the multimode WDM fiber optic network, which will control all aircraft flight systems and provide the data link from onboard aircraft health monitors to the flight control computers. The fiber optic network will use add/drop technology being developed under an Air Force contract to Optelecom. Optelecom will work alongside Boeing, Honeywell, HR Textron and APTI to develop an integrated network system for the Boeing aircraft.
