Bookham, Cierra Collaborate on WDM
SANTA ROSA, Calif., Sept. 10 -- Cierra Photonics and UK-based Bookham Technology, both makers of integrated optical components and subsystems for fiber-optic communication networks, announced they have formed a two-part "technology and commercial association" to bring the benefits of high integration-based functionality to wavelength division multiplex (WDM) products, such as optical add/drop multiplexers.
Bookham Technology is contributing its ASOC design and manufacturing technology for fabricating integrated optical circuits on a silicon substrate, along with its integrated GaAs and InP tunable lasers and modulators. Cierra Photonics brings to the association its thin-film filters, based on its advanced energetic deposition technology for wafer-scale integration. Bookham will also exclusively distribute Cierra Photonics' optical channel filters in Europe, including terra-Q and solla-Q products.
