Fuji Film Develops Cheap Optic Fiber
TOKYO, Sept. 11 -- Fuji Photo Film Co. has reportedly developed a low-cost plastic optic fiber for high-speed communications that will be targeted for household use, according to a Reuters report this week.
"The new product marks the first entry into the fiber cable business for Fuji Photo, which aims to expand its sources of revenue," said the Reuters article.
A Fuji spokesperson told Reuters the plastic fiber can withstand heat and humidity and that the technology would "produce fibers many times the diameter of conventional glass fibers and dramatically reduce installation costs."
