DRS to Produce Digital Imaging Systems

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Nov. 11 -- DRS Technologies Inc. has been awarded two new contracts to produce high-speed digital imaging systems for installation on US and Canadian combat aircraft.

The company's airborne separation video system (ASVS) is designed to replace film cameras to capture airborne weapons separation events.

The awards have a combined value of approximately $2.5 million, including contract options. Work for both contracts will be performed at the company's operation in Oakland, NJ.
The first contract, for approximately $1.2 million, was awarded to DRS by the Naval Air Warfare Center's Aircraft Div., in Patuxent River, Md. For this award, the company will produce the ASVS, consisting of long-term test capability (LTTC) cameras, multicamera system controllers (MSC) and spares for US Navy F/A-18 Hornet and US Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-15 Eagle combat aircraft. Product deliveries are expected to begin in May and continue through September 2004.

The second contract, for approximately $1.3 million, was awarded by Public Works and Government Services Canada on behalf of Canada's Department of National Defence. DRS will provide LTTC cameras, MSC hard drives, a cockpit control unit and training. These LTTCs will fly on Canada's CF-18 Hornet aircraft and will be utilized on the CT-133 Silver Star ejection seat test bed. Completion of product deliveries is expected in March 2003.

The ASVS program is the result of the U.S. government's commitment to implement a transition from the use of wet film cameras to high-speed digital imaging systems.
