Air Force Lab Signs Agreement for Pump Laser Technology

Nuvonyx Inc. of Bridgeton, Mo., and the Air Force Research Laboratory's Directed Energy Directorate at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., have signed a $4,888,020 dual-use science and technology investment agreement. Over the next three years, Nuvonyx will provide the directorate with the pump laser technology required to develop enhanced fiber lasers and amplifiers producing power levels up to several thousand watts per beam line. Potential military applications include designators, tactical weapons and target illuminators, and commercial applications may include micromachining, materials processing, and the welding and cutting of metals.
