German Program to Develop Organic LED Displays
The German Ministry of Research and Education has granted a group of scientists €3.5 million for research devoted to organic vapor phase deposition technology for organic LED flat panel display applications. Headed by Aixtron AG of Aachen, Germany, the researchers will bring the company's deposition technology into production, adapting developments to increase the efficiency of making full-color displays. The technology is used mainly for small- and medium-size displays in cellular phones, automotive applications and handheld computers.
The devices may be used as pure optical switches, tunable add/drop modules, multiplex/demultiplex devices and other reconfigurable DWDM system components. They also may improve the capacity, speed, security and reliability of long-haul, metropolitan and local area optical networks.
