NeoPhotonics Separates Medical Components Business

FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 4 -- NeoPhotonics Corp., a developer of nanomaterials technology and product applications, announced it has completed preparations to spin off its medical component business into a separate corporation.

The new company, NanoGram Devices Corp., is creating power sources for medical devices and other medical equipment based on its laser-based nanomaterial synthesis technology. This technology was originally developed by NeoPhotonics Corp. and affiliate NanoGram Corp. in partnership with a leading medical device company.

NanoGram Devices will initially focus on markets for implantable medical devices, specifically defibrillators, congestive heat failure devices and pacemakers. The company said it has already shipped power sources to several customers.
