Somera Reduces Work Force

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Dec. 6 -- Telecommunications equipment deployment services provider Somera Communications said it has reduced its workforce in North America by approximately 10 percent and has consolidated its operations in key locations.

The action is part of a realignment aimed at strengthening its core equipment and services businesses, the company said.

"This will have little impact on our strategic initiatives in international and services, where we see tremendous opportunity," said Rick Darnaby, CEO of Somera. "The fundamentals of our business model remain sound."
