Declining Defense Budget Will Not Hinder Electronics Growth
Despite projections that the
US Department of Defense's overall budget will decline within 10 years, the portion of the defense budget allotted for electronics is expected to increase. That's the finding of the Electronic Industries Association's 10-year forecast committee.
The committee's chairman, Emily Willey of
Honeywell Inc., presented those findings at the 33rd Annual Ten-Year Defense & NASA Electronics Forecast Conference in McLean, Va. The panel predicts that the overall defense budget will decline from $254 billion in fiscal 1998 to $243 billion in 2007. The electronics slice of the defense budget is projected to increase from $51.5 billion in 1998 to $58.9 billion in 2007.
