National Science Board to Set Research Priorities
Concerned with future funding, the
National Science Board is calling for further study on establishing scientific research priorities.
In a paper titled "Government Funding of Scientific Research," the board called for coordination of federally financed research to find more systematic ways of decision making. The board's chairman, Dick Zare, said the paper-in-progress was meant to encourage dialogue among those who have a stake in future funding.
The paper follows a May resolution in which the board supported an integrated and coordinated federal budget for research and engineering in science.
