Optical Gain Block Use Rise Forecast

SAN MATEO, Calif., Jan. 14 -- The global use of active optical gain blocks will increase from a 2002 value of $1.18 billion to $2.45 billion in 2006, according to a report from market researcher ElectroniCast.

The company's Optical Fiber Amplifier, Gain Block & Components Global Market Forecast Report presents a detailed ten-year forecast and analysis of the consumption of OFAs. The forecast is segmented into the significant end applications on a regional basis, by amplifier types, optical fiber gain blocks and the various components used to assemble the gain blocks. Optical fiber gain blocks are used in the fabrication of the OFAs.

ElectroniCast President Stephen Montgomery said, "Optical fiber gain block consumption currently is dominated by 1550 nm erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) gain blocks. Telecommunications applications lead in OFA use; however, private data communications, cable TV, military and test/measurement OFA use will provide unique opportunities for component manufacturers and system equipment manufacturers."

The report is available for $12,000. The complete service includes analyst inquiry services, debriefing sessions, quarterly industry review, extensive database spreadsheets and the report text.
