High Power Laser Optics:
Bernie Bruns and Tom Neff, II-VI Incorporated
As power levels rise above 5 kW, optics become critical to the performance and reliability of laser systems. These applications demand consistent laser-quality ZnSe that is defect free and has bulk absorption at or near theoretical values. Other issues for include fabrication techniques that yield nearly defect free surfaces, coupled with low loss coatings. Finally, assembling the optic in a stress free mount that provides optimum heat sinking is critical to ensuring maximum performance of the optic.
