Quantum Magnetics Awarded Defense Contract

NEWARK, Calif., Feb. 7 -- Quantum Magnetics, a subsidiary of InVision Technologies Inc., has been awarded $3.49 million for the first phase of a 28-month project to develop a landmine detection system situated on a moving vehicle for the US Army.

The detection system is based on one of Quantum Magnetics' core technologies, quadrupole resonance (QR). The company began developing precision QR-based mine detection sensors for the US Department of Defense more than six years ago. Quantum will develop the technology from stationary detection of landmines to detecting mines while moving over a wide area of land.

Sergio Magistri, Ph.D., InVision Technologies' President and Chief Executive Officer said, "Today's world of protracted skirmishes in war-torn countries such as Afghanistan requires an exacting, definitive mine detection system for the protection of our armed forces in combat conditions."

Quantum Magnetics develops weapons, narcotics, explosives and other detection systems based on QR and other magnetic sensing technologies.
