Alliance Seeks to Automate Optical Component Manufacturing
Unitek Miyachi Corp. of Monrovia, and Phasebridge Inc. of Pasadena, both in California, have signed an agreement to commercialize photonics assembly technology. Phasebridge will license elements of its patent-pending optical mount technology to Unitek, which will develop a standard platform for the automation of key fiber optics packaging processes. The technology eliminates the need for postweld processes such as laser hammering or bending, and it enables reworkable single laser beam welding of photonic components. The goal is to enable high-yield packaging and manufacturing automation for photonic applications.
