Brewer Science Inc. recently moved into a new research and development center near its headquarters in Rolla, Mo. The 55,000-square-foot facility combines research laboratories, Class 1000 and Class 100 clean rooms, analytical service laboratories, pilot plant operations and office space for R&D and New Business Group staff. The R&D center will also be used to diversify Brewer’s product lines in the areas of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), bio-MEMS related to sensors, optoelectronic materials for solid-state color sensors and displays and specialty polymers for use in the semiconductor and other industries.   . . .   Cambridge Display Technology (CDT) announced it has received its first order for light-emitting polymer (LEP) display products from its Godmanchester, England, manufacturing technology development center, where it makes LEP displays on 350 mm by 350 mm substrates. The first shipment will go to Trident Displays, a UK distributor of liquid crystal, electroluminescent and plasma display technology and support products. CDT also announced it has made an agreement to provide full-color ink-jet printing manufacturing technology for use in DuPont Displays' LEP OLED manufacturing. The technology and process transfer agreement builds on a November 2001 LEP manufacturing and intellectual property licensing agreement between the two companies.
