IPG Photonics Breaks Fiber Laser Output Record

OXFORD, Mass., May 22 -- IPG Photonics Corp. (IPG) has announced that its commercial-grade Ytterbium fiber laser achieved 300 watts of low noise single-mode output power, a new record. The company said, "This breakthrough increases by 50 percent the single-mode output from IPG's existing line of production fiber lasers, while maintaining their same performance, including beam quality (M2<1.05), low noise (rms <1.5 percent in the frequency range 1kHz - 20MHz), high-speed modulation by diode current (up to 30kHz ), and single-mode fiber delivery (up to 20m)."

IPG will start shipping the product later this year.

Operating at an emission wavelength of 1.08 microns, the YLR model lasers feature either air or water cooling. The product line includes randomly and linearly polarized CW Ytterbium fiber lasers with single mode output from 1 watt to 300 watts, and multimode output up to 10 kilowatts. IPG also offers Q-switched MOPA-type pulsed fiber lasers with an energy per pulse up to 1 mJ at repetition rates up to 100 kHz.
