PCTEL Sues Agere, Broadcom, Lucent and US Robotics
CHICAGO, May 29 -- PCTEL Inc., a provider of Internet access technology, 802.11 mobility software and software-defined radio products, has filed patent infringement lawsuits against modem manufacturers Agere Systems Inc., Broadcom Corp., Lucent Technologies Inc. and US Robotics Corp. The complaints were filed on May 23 in the Northern District of California, asserting that these companies have infringed modem technology developed or acquired by PCTEL.
PCTEL also filed a complaint in March against 3COM Corp. for infringing PCTEL modem technology.
PCTEL focuses on wireless products, in particular Wi-Fi software, software defined radios and wireless test and measurement tools. In the past year, the company has acquired both a software company and a wireless test and measurement company.
PCTEL recently divested its modem product line to Conexant Systems Inc. In addition to cash consideration, Conexant granted PCTEL ownership of approximately 50 modem-related patents.
