BellSouth to Upgrade SONET Platform
ATLANTA, June 2 -- BellSouth announced it will upgrade its SONET infrastructure to a multiservice provisioning platform (MSPP) in order to expand service options for customers in its nine-state region. It will deploy Lucent's Metropolis DMX Access Multiplexer and Cisco Systems' ONS 15454 MSPP for the expansion.
"MSPP will enable BellSouth to cost-effectively manage both traditional time division multiplexed and new packet-based services over a common, fully redundant infrastructure," said Bill Smith, BellSouth's chief product development and technology officer. "MSPP will also enable BellSouth to offer additional cutting-edge solutions over a next-generation SONET infrastructure while adding protected carrier-class reliability to Ethernet and other emerging transport options."
