Advanced Photonix Awarded Missile Parts Contract

CAMARILLO, Calif., June 19 -- Advanced Photonix Inc. announced that it has received a $2,435,000 contract from Raytheon Co. for the detector/preamp assembly for the active optical target detector used in the rolling airframe missile (RAM), a ship self-defense weapon. Shipment of the parts will begin in the second quarter of 2004.

RAM is a joint effort between Raytheon Co.'s Missile Systems business in Tucson, Ariz., and RAMSYS, a consortium of German companies. RAM is now installed, or planned for installation, on over 80 US Navy and 28 German Navy ships. The South Korean and Greek navies have accepted delivery of their first RAM systems, and deployment is scheduled soon.

Advanced Photonix manufactures silicon photodetectors, optoelectronic hybrid assemblies and proprietary solid-state, large-area avalanche photodiodes.
