A. Michael Andrews II, PhD, has been appointed to the new position of CTO at L-3 Communications. Andrews, who has been deputy assistant secretary of research and technology and chief scientist for the US Army since 1998, will be based in L-3's Washington office. He began his career at Rockwell in 1971, working on electro-optic and infrared research and development products. L-3 supplies a wide variety of intelligence, communications and wireless products to the Department of Defense, US intelligence agencies, aerospace companies and commercial telecommunications and wireless customers.   . . .   E.C. "Pete" Aldridge Jr. has been elected to the Lockheed Martin board of directors, effective yesterday. Aldridge, who retired from government service in May, is the former undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics. He was previously CEO of Aerospace Corp. and president of McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems.   . . .   EPSON Robots received the 2003 Robotics World Machine Vision Award for its vision-guided conveyor tracking demonstration. The award was presented at the International Robots and Vision Show, held this month in Rosemont, Ill. EPSON demonstrated a side-mounted EPSON E2C351 SCARA robot attached to a wall-mounted EPSON EZ module equipped with vision guidance and conveyor tracking.
