Alexandru Aciu, vice president of engineering at Vision Research Inc., based in Wayne, N.J., received the Harold E. Edgerton Award from the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), presented at SPIE's 48th annual meeting this month, for the development of CMOS sensor technology, specifically for high-speed imaging, that has broken technological barriers for every important benchmark used to define high-speed motion analysis systems. Judith Donnelly, professor/program coordinator of photonics engineering technology at Three Rivers Community College, in Norwich, Conn., received SPIE's annual Educator Award for advancing the field of photonics education in Connecticut and New England and for her role in photonics work force development in Connecticut.   . . .   The US Army and the Israeli Ministry of Defense have selected a Northrop Grumman Corp. design concept for the mobile tactical high-energy laser prototype, a laser weapon capable of shooting down short-range rockets and artillery projectiles in flight. The prototype will be developed during 2004-2007.
