The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) announced that its quarterly Journal of Biomedical Optics (JBO) will be published bimonthly beginning in 2004.   . . .   VRmagic GmbH, a developer of virtual-reality simulators, is incorporating eMagin's light-emitting diode (OLED) microdisplays into its second-generation EYESI surgical training system, which is used in ophthalmic surgery training. The system is being presented at the 101st meeting of the German Ophthalmic Society (Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft), being held this week in Berlin, Germany.   . . .   InVision Technologies Inc. has announced that Roelof van Ark, former president and CEO of Siemens Transportation Systems, has been appointed president of InVision's new aviation security group, which comprises the company's explosives detection systems and x-ray diffraction businesses. InVision's aviation security systems are based on advanced computed tomography.   . . .   Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Professor L. Ramdas Ram-Mohan, PhD, has been elected a fellow of the London-based Institute of Physics for his contributions to the profession. In addition, last month Ram-Mohan was awarded the Department of the Air Force Certificate of Achievement from the Air Force Research Laboratory in recognition of his technical accomplishments for the US Air Force while on leave of absence from WPI. This research involved fundamental theoretical issues in optoelectronics and the modeling and simulation of physical systems at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. A professor of physics and electrical and computer engineering at WPI, Ram-Mohan has taught at the university since 1978. He is the author of more than 160 peer-reviewed publications in his fields of research.
