Innovative Biosensors Licenses CANARY Technology

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Nov. 21 -- Innovative Biosensors Inc., a developer of rapid diagnostic technologies, announced it has obtained an exclusive license for the CANARY biosensor technology developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Lincoln Laboratory.

CANARY (Cellular Analysis and Notification of Antigen Risks and Yields) gives cells that comprise the body's first line of defense against viruses and bacteria the ability to glow like jellyfish in the presence of contaminants. In medical diagnosis applications, CANARY can detect pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and proteins from samples in a variety of formats. It can be used to test water quality or indoor air quality or as a pathogen detector in the food safety and agricultural industries. In defense applications, it can detect anthrax and other bio-warfare agents.

The license gives Innovative Biosensors exclusive rights to use this technology in the fields of food testing, human and animal clinical diagnostics and sales to the life science research market. Further details of the agreement were not disclosed.
