China, Israel to Deepen Telecom Cooperation

BEIJING, Nov. 21 -- The cooperation between telecommunication sectors of China and Israel has huge potential, said an official from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the Xinhua News Agency reported.

Li Baosheng, deputy chairman of CCPIT's sub-council of telecommunication, made the remark Monday during the Israel Telecommunication and Information Technology Seminar held here this week. More than 20 Israeli companies and 50 Chinese companies in the information industry attended.

Li said Sino-Israeli trade volume grew at an annual rate of 31 percent in the past five years and reached
$495 million dollars in the first half of 2003. The rapid growth is mainly in the high-tech products trade, including telecommunications, computers, software and medical equipment, said Li.

Israeli Ambassador Dr. Yehoyada Haim said his country has advanced technologies in the telecommunication service, software, security and semiconductor industry, and that it exports products and technologies to over 200 countries and regions. Israel is willing to provide Chinese users with infrastructure solutions and fixed line, wireless network and broad band technologies, Haim said.
