FREMONT, Calif., Nov. 28 -- Avanex Corp., a developer of optical technology for fiber optic communications networks, announced it plans to discontinue operations in Livingston, Scotland, subject to the normal regulatory processes and consultations with the workforce.
Walter Alessandrini, Avanex chairman and CEO, said the company is "investigating all of our options with regard to Livingston."
The company also announced it has appointed David Parker as vice president, product marketing, and Linda C. Reddick as acting CFO, and that former JDS Uniphase executive Syrus P. Madavi has joined its board of directors.
Avanex acquired Alcatel's and Corning's optical components businesses last May, and Vitesse's optical systems business in August.
