Emcore Acquires Molex's 10-Gb Ethernet Transceiver Business
Emcore Corp., a provider of semiconductor technologies for global communications based in Somerset, N.J., has acquired the 10-Gb Ethernet transceiver business of Molex Inc., including its assets, products, and technical and intellectual property. The unit, which focuses on Xenpak and X2 form-factor products, will become part of Emcore's Fiber Optics Div. and will continue to operate in Molex's Downers Grove, Ill., facility, which will be leased by Emcore. Approximately 17 Molex employees will join Emcore under the agreement. The market for 10-Gb transceivers operating at 1310 nm is expected to grow 66 percent per year, to more than $380 million by 2007, according to Tom Hausken, director of optical components at Strategies Unlimited, a market research firm.
