Contract Is Awarded for Zoom Lens
Special Optics Inc. of Wharton, N.J., will design and produce a motorized zoom lens system to image missiles during flight testing under a two-year, $730,000 Phase II Small Business Innovation Research contract from the US Army White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. To precisely image a missile trajectory under changing conditions requires either multiple imaging systems with a fixed focal lens or a zoom lens system that can adjust its magnification to variations in object distance. Use of a zoom system eliminates the need for multiple equipment setups and the task of changing fixed imaging devices during the tests. The system will provide high-resolution imaging over the visible spectrum in a desert environment.
