Mediacom DWDM Network Uses Nortel Platform
ANAHEIM, Calif., Dec. 10 -- Cable TV company Mediacom Communications Corp. announced it has deployed a carrier-grade dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) network based on Nortel Networks's OPTera Metro 5200 multiservice platform to transport high-bandwidth, carrier-class communications throughout most of its service territories, including connectivity to major metropolitan cities.
"Our implementation of the optical transport technologies from Nortel Networks enables us to extend the backbone of our network across the footprint of our cable systems, allowing us to deliver new high-bandwidth services to many of our markets where they do not exist today," said Joseph Van Loan, senior vice president of technology for Mediacom Communications. "These enhancements to our network also reduce our own communications costs between network facilities and our Internet backbone, as well as between our customer call centers."
