Pirelli Completes Farice Submarine Telecom System
MILAN, Dec. 11 -- Pirelli announced it has completed a submarine cable system for Farice Hf, a joint venture of Iceland Telecom and Faroese Telecom, to be used as the main infrastructure for their international Internet, voice and data traffic.
The project, a full turn-key repeatered system spanning over 1400 km connecting Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Scotland, is equipped to transmit a capacity of 20 Gb/s, upgradable up to 720 Gb/s. The entire system, which ncludes submarine cable, submersible repeaters and a branching unit, was designed and manufactured by Pirelli in Italy.
Pirelli said it used the newly built cable ship Pertinacia, operated by Elettra (part of the Telecom Italia Group) for the installation in the north Atlantic.
