Lumileds Lighting LLC Wins Circle of Excellence Award

The Luxeon warm white LED light source combines the benefits of solid-state lighting and the white color of incandescent lamps. The light provides 3200 K warm white light with a typical color-rendering index of 90, in contrast to the cool blue-white produced by current white LEDs at 5500 K and with a typical index of 70. It has a small footprint, a beam that is cool to the touch and contains no ultraviolet, and an average output of 22 lumens.

Lumileds Lighting LLC of San Jose, Calif., its manufacturer, says that the light source's spectral output more closely matches that of incandescent lights over the visible color range than any other nonthermal light source. Its spectrum closely mirrors the output of a blackbody radiator, which is achieved by the addition of a red phosphor to the phosphor mix. The Luxeon consumes less energy for equal lumen output and, under typical conditions, the source's lifetime is 50,000 hours. It retains 70 percent of its initial power during that time.

In addition, lighting designers now can integrate solid-state fixtures in the same interior space as other light-source-based fixtures.

The Luxeon white LEDs are suitable for all types of general illumination, including reading or accent lights; cove, task or undercounter lights; lighting for architectural and decorative purposes; and wall sconces.
