German Company Secures Optics Firm
Jenoptik AG of Jena, Germany, has expanded its Photonics Div. with the purchase of all shares of Wahl Optoparts GmbH. The acquired company, based in Triptis, Germany, supplies custom-made optical components and plastic optomechanical and electronic component assemblies. The use of plastic optics in optical equipment and systems is expected to grow, partly because they weigh less than glass optics and can be manufactured cost-effectively. They have applications in mobile phones, digital cameras and the industrial, medical, automotive and lighting industries. Wahl Optoparts will benefit from Jenoptik's expertise in optical design, measuring and coating technologies.
