Essex Corp., a Columbia, Md., designer of optical components for the US military and other government agencies, has added two executives to its senior management team: Jim Devine as executive vice president and general manager, and Fred Funk as vice president, commercial services. Devine had a 36-year career with the National Security Agency and most recently was a principal at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he led the corporate enterprise and mission operation business in support of the intelligence community. Funk was formerly a vice president at Systems Alliance Inc., a private software and services company. Prior to that, he was director of business systems solutions at Aether Systems Inc. and executive director of client services at Caliber Learning Network.   . . .   Savvas Chamberlain, CEO and chairman of Dalsa Corp., received the Automated Imaging Association’s (AIA) Achievement Award for Industry Leadership at the annual AIA business conference, held last week in Orlando, Fla. Chamberlain has a background as a scientist and professor at the University of Waterloo. He has published more than 150 papers in scientific journals in the area of CCDs and semiconductor devices and has authored and co-authored more than 20 patents. He has attended the owner/president management business course at Harvard Business School and recently received the Ernst & Young 2003 Ontario Entrepreneur Of The Year award in technology and communications. Dalsa, based in Waterloo, Canada, makes silicon chips and digital camera components for use in manufacturing processes, medical equipment and professional photography.
