Kopin Corp., of Taunton, Mass., announced it has received a production order from
FLIR Systems AB, Imaging Sweden for ruggedized, VGA-resolution CyberDisplay 640M modules that will display infrared images in night-vision binoculars for the Swedish and Norwegian armies. Kopin developed the binocular active-matrix liquid crystal display modules to be integrated into FLIR's forward-observer thermal imager.

Synopsys Inc. announced that
Toshiba Semiconductor Co. has licensed the rights, on a per-use basis, to use its alternating phase-shift mask (PSM) technology for production of high-performance processors and logic chips. Toshiba expects to enter volume production on its 65-nm process built with this technology in the first half of 2005.
. . . The Bay Area Science and Innovation Consortium (BASIC) has released a 36-page report on nanotechnology in the San Francisco area. "Nanotechnology in the San Francisco Bay Area: Dawn of a New Age" explains the basics of nanotechnology and highlights research by and accomplishments of BASIC members, which include public and private research labs and universities in the region.
